(( The Lord

how he's chosen ))

The lord is chosen at a young age. He is typically the first son of the current lord, but many things have been known to alter that into being the second or even third-born. If the current lord has no sons, his leadership passes on to the closest living male relative; usually a brother.

responsibilities ))

The lord is responsible for every major decision regarding the Empire. He decides when the Guard attacks something, who gets to be part of the elite guard in the Palace, and many other things that might come to his attention.

(( The Lady

how she's chosen ))

The lady is almost never born into the royal family. Most of the time, she is chosen from the guard; usually at a rather young age compared to the lord. The first thing a lord is to do once he has been given his rank is choose a lady. The lady, once chosen, has no choice in the matter. She has to move into the Palace at once.

The lady is not technically responsible for anything other than to produce the next heir to the throne of the Empire. That being said, she still has some influence in certain things that relate to how the Palace is run. She is usually able to change small things around.

(( The Guide[/i]

how they're chosen ))

Because the lord is so busy with other decisions, the choosing of the guide is usually up to the lady. She generally chooses them from the elite part of the guard, but that's not always the case. The guide is supposed to be chosen for their ability to be wise, but some queens have been known to choose friends because they were close.

responsibilities ))

The guide's responsibility is to be an adviser to the lord. They help the lord reach decisions on things by pointing out possible flaws in plans.

(( The Captain

how he's chosen ))

The next captain is chosen by the current captain when he is close to retiring to the Palace. He is chosen from among the ranks of the guard a few moons in advance and is shown the ropes before taking on full responsibilities.

The captain is responsible for appointing groups of guard members to carry out orders from the Palace. He is also responsible for training the young members of the guard to be the best they can. He is usually very strict in his orders, and it is rather common for him to use physical force to get his point across.
